Saved paint can be reused for touch-ups or other projects, such as painting furniture. Follow the steps below:
1. The lids of the paint cans should be tightly sealed. Wipe the rim with paper towel first, so lid won't be difficult to remove later.
2. Before you store it, use a permanent marker to write on the side or top of the can. Include the paint-chip number, date, room in which it was used, and color name, which often isn't already on the can (which baffle us).
3. Store it in a location where the temperature remains relatively constant - avoid the attic, garage or utility shed. This is to prevent the paint from deteriorating, which could change its texture or cause it to peel the next time you use it! The average temperature should be more than 50 degrees - the laundry room or the uppermost shelf in a closet are usually warm enough.
4. Oil paints are flammable, so don't place them near heat sources, or other spots where they might potentially catch a fire.
